Dartmoor Cycling Camp: 5th to 9th April 2019

The Dartmoor Cycling Camp is an awesome way to discover the breathtaking beauty of Dartmoor National Park whilst building your personal fitness and cycling skills. Our Ride Leaders are all local cyclists with an extensive knowledge of the best cycle routes in the area. Each day you will ride with a small group of cyclists that are of a similar standard to you. We offer three Ride Group Standards; Easy, Moderate and Difficult. Each ride will be crafted to suit your personal level of ride fitness.

The Dartmoor Cycling Camp has been designed with the Sportive cyclist in mind. Our structured training rides, coaching sessions and seminars will help you achieve your personal goals, whether that's gaining confidence to participate in your first sportive or to attain a gold medal standard on a century ride or multi-day cycling event.

Dartmoor National Park is recognised as one of the best landscapes in the UK. Situation in Devon, in South West of England, Dartmoor National Park occupies approximately 365 square miles of beautiful countryside that is rich in history. Its central core is dominated by rugged open moorland with imposing granite tors. This remote vista gives way to deep river valleys that radiate out through the surrounding farmland with its lush rolling fields and woodlands. Nestled throughout the Dartmoor landscape there are many little villages, hamlets and remote farmsteads, all interconnected by quite country lanes just waiting to be explored.

Our 2019 Dartmoor Cycling Camp will run from The Premier Inn at Newton Abbot Racecourse, close to the Eastern edge of Dartmoor National Park. There are ample places for parking adjacent to this location for anyone not staying at the Premier Inn.

At the start of the camp, you will have the opportunity for a private consultation with one of our professional Cycling Coaches. This will help establish your goals and set your training targets. Each day we will ride with a small group of cyclists that share a similar level or ride fitness. Each ride will explore a different area of Dartmoor and will help you train for the different demands experienced in Sportive cycling. Your Ride Group Leader will be with you to both guide you and help you attain your training goals. The distance and intensity of each ride will vary depending on the fitness levels within each group. All our rides have van support ensuring we have all the necessary resources on hand to assist you, whatever the scenario. Energy drinks & snacks will be supplied for all rides and we will also take shceduled cafe stops on each ride.

The Dartmoor Cycling Camp offers you three levels of ride group:

EASY PACE:

Our Easy Pace group is aimed at cyclists that are new to Sportive riding and are looking to train for short to medium distance cycle events. The Easy Group is ideally suited for anyone looking to build their confidence, in areas such as group riding, ascending and descending steep hills or bike handling. The daily guided rides will be around 30 to 50 miles and will be at a steady pace (around 10 to 12 mph). To get the most out of the training camp, clients need to be able to cycle a minimum of 25 miles per day for three consecutive days. Clients are fully supported throughout the camp so there is no concerns about being 'dropped' or left behind. If you would like to join us but you are concerned about your level of fitness, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss the best option for you.

MODERATE PACE:

Our Moderate Pace group is aimed at cyclists with a reasonable level of fitness that are looking to train for medium to long distance Sportive rides or cycle events. The Moderate Group is ideally suited to anyone seeking to improve their ride fitness and gain some valuable Sportive training tips from a professional cycle coach. The daily guided rides will be around 40 to 60 miles and will be at a steady pace (around 13 to 15 mph). The focus of this group will lean more towards endurance than medal times.  To get the most out of the training camp, clients in this group need to be able to cycle a minimum of 40 miles per day for three consecutive days. Clients are fully supported throughout the camp so there is no concerns about being 'dropped' or left behind.

DIFFICULT PACE:

Our Difficult Pace group is aimed at cyclists with a good level of fitness that are looking to train for medium to long distance Sportive rides or cycle events with a target medal time in mind. The Moderate Group is ideally suited to anyone seeking to improve their ride fitness and performance. Seeking to gain valuable Sportive training tips from a professional cycle coach to help attain a personal goal. The daily guided rides will be around 50 to 70 miles and will be at a challenging pace (around 15 to 17 mph). The focus for this group will be on improving performance. To get the most out of the training camp, clients in this group need to be able to cycle a minimum of 50 miles per day for three consecutive days. Clients are fully supported throughout the camp so there is no concerns about being 'dropped' or left behind.

We will carry a small amount of basic spares and bike maintenance tools in our support van. Bay Cycles are our bike maintenance partners. Should you encounter any mechanical problems that cannot be resolved at the roadside, we have a priority support arrangement with Bay Cycles ensuring we can get you back on the road as quickly as possible.

After each ride we will have a Training Talk, discussing various topics to help further develop your cycling knowledge and skills. We will also have a sports massage therapist available each day, offering a post ride massage. Massage fees are not included in the booking fee - you pay the therapist on the day.

There is an option on the Friday for you to attend a full FTP (Functional Theshold Power) Test session and have your Heart Rate & Power Zones calculated and set for you by a qualified British Cycling Level 3 Coach. This session is not included in the camp fee and would need to be booked in advance. FTP Tests take approximately 1 hour to complete and are offered at the special camp rate of just £40.
